Hinterland Retreat
A refuge designed to lightly occupy a stony hillside in the Northern NSW hinterland. The site is currently being regenerated after having been cleared of the invasive tree species Camphor Laurel.
As the rainforest regenerates, the vegetation and ground will flow freely beneath and into the building, binding the architecture and everyday rituals of life with the daily and seasonal dynamics of the environment. The existing rock acts as an entry landing. post anchors, and a central plinth to an expressive structural column, creating a meditative and chapel like experience.
The program consists of 1 living space, bathroom, sauna and a semi enclosed sleep out loft.
